Pune News: Traffic Changes in Pune City for Ashadhi Wari; Use These Alternative Routes

Pune: The palanquins of Sant Shreshtha Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Jagadguru Tukaram Maharaj will arrive in the city on Sunday, prompting changes to the traffic arrangements for their arrival, stay, and departure. Major roads in the city will remain closed for traffic after noon on the occasion of the Palkhi arrival. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rohidas Pawar has urged motorists to use alternative routes.

Road Closures for Jagadguru Shri Tukaram Maharaj’s Palkhi

On Sunday, all types of traffic coming to Pune from Bopodi Chowk, Khadki Railway Station, Mariai Gate Chowk, Kamalnayan Bajaj Chowk, and the Old Mumbai-Pune Route will be closed.

Road Closures for Sant Shreshtha Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s Palkhi

Traffic will be closed from Kalas Phata to Vishrantwadi Chowk, Mental Corner at Yerawada to Alandi Road Chowk, Chandra Chowk to Alandi Road, New Dr. Ambedkar Bridge to Chandra Chowk, and Holkar Bridge to Sapras Chowki. During this period, only roads leading to Alandi will remain closed as needed, while other roads will stay open. The traffic branch has appealed to motorists to use alternative routes. (Pune News)

Palkhi Routes in the City

After the arrival of the palanquins in the city, both palanquins will follow the same route to their destination: Engineering College Chowk, Sancheti Chowk, Vedhashala Chowk, Veer Chapekar Chowk, Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk, Tukaram Paduka Chowk, Gokhale Smarak Chowk (Goodluck), Khandoji Baba Chowk, Tilak Chowk, Laxmi Road, Vijay Cinema Hall Chowk, Seva Sadan Chowk, Belbagh Chowk, Budhwar Chowk, Pasodia Vithoba Mandir, Moti Chowk, Sonya Maruti Chowk, Hamjakhan Chowk, Dulya Maruti Chowk, Nana Peth Police Chowk. Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj will stay at Shri Palkhi Vithoba Temple in Bhawani Peth via Palkhi Ashoka Chowk. Changes will be made in the transport system in Nana-Bhavani Peth for the stay of the palanquins.

Alternative Routes During Road Closures

Ganeshkhind Road, from Rangehill Chowk to Sancheti Hospital, will be closed to traffic, and the alternative route will be via Rangehill-Khadki Police Station, Poultry Chowk, Old Mumbai Pune Highway, Range Hill, Senapati Bapat Road, and Law College Road. Fergusson Road, from Khandojibaba Chowk to Veer Chapekar Chowk, will also be closed, with Karve Road, Senapati Bapat Road, and Rangehill as alternative routes. Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, from Gadgil Statue to S.G. Barve Chowk, will be closed, and the alternative route will be via Kumbhar Ves, Maldhaka Chowk, RTO Chowk, Jehangir Hospital, and Bundgarden Road. Tilak Chowk to Veer Chapekar Chowk will be closed, with Shastri Road and Mhatre Bridge as alternative routes. Laxmi Road, from Belbagh Chowk to Tilak Chowk, will be closed, with Shivaji Road, Hirabagh Tilak Road, and Shastri Road as alternative routes.

Other Closures

The road from Senadutt police outpost on Shastri Road to Khandojibaba Chowk will also be closed.

Heavy Vehicles Banned

Heavy vehicles coming to the city for the arrival of palanquins have been banned. Traffic from Solapur to Mumbai has been diverted via Chauphula and Theur. Traffic from Saswad to Mumbai has been diverted via Narayanpur and Kapurhol. All types of traffic on the entire Palkhi route will be closed during the Palkhi arrival on June 30 and the Palkhi departure on July 2. Roads will be opened for traffic once the palanquin has passed. Traffic will resume as needed as the palanquin moves forward.
