NCERT issued clarification on 9th maths syllabus… Algorithm chapter added, no topic removed.

There is a debate going on about some issues of the draft syllabus released by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT). NCERT has released a clarification on this. NCERT has clarified in the clarification issued that the syllabus draft released earlier is only a preliminary draft. The filen draft syllabus is scheduled to be released in October. Also, NCERT has said that no subject has been removed from the draft syllabus of 9th Mathematics, while Algorithms chapter has been added keeping in mind the needs of AI.

Need to understand as per NEP and NCF-SE

NCERT has stated in a clarification issued that as per NEP and NCF-SE, the school curriculum should be understood and implemented through ‘curriculum objectives’, ‘competencies’ and ‘learning outcomes’. This cannot be understood just by counting the names of the chapters in the textbook.

The purpose of the draft syllabus is to provide an initial offer of feedback.

NCERT has clarified that the “draft” NCERT syllabus released earlier was only a draft syllabus, meant to provide an initial proposal for feedback from teachers, students and writers/academics. Based on this feedback, the draft syllabus will be finalized and released by NCERT/CBSE in October.

The subjects have not been removed from the draft syllabus of 9th Mathematics

NCERT has clarified in its clarification that no core subject has been removed from the draft syllabus of Class 9 Mathematics, some of its subjects have been included in another chapter instead of forming a separate chapter.

NCERT has given examples in explanation and explained that many important new ideas and applications of ‘Lines and Angles’ (there was already a dedicated chapter in Chapter 2 of Class 6 book ‘Mathematics Light’) are included in the chapters “Propositions and their converse” (Chapter 9) and “Quadrilaterals of Class 1 (Part 9). Chapters 5, 6, 9, 12 and 13 are explained in detail.

Added Algorithms chapter

NCERT in its issued specification said that in view of the development of AI, it is understood that students should understand the concepts of algorithms, data structures and running time efficiency from a mathematical perspective. It is believed that modern AI is completely based on mathematics. Keeping this in mind, a chapter on Algorithms has been added in Class 9 for all students.
