Ban on Iranian ships worldwide from today, will India also ban?

It has been almost seven months of tension between Iran and the US and now US economic pressure against Iran has reached a new level. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant has warned that efforts will be made to exclude Iranian airlines from international flights around the world from September 23.

Not only that, there is also the threat of American action against foreign companies that provide fuel, landing or other services to Iranian aircraft. Many countries have accepted this US decision, but some countries have not yet confirmed whether there will be an Iranian flight or not.

What America warned?

In the meantime, questions are coming up regarding India as well. No official comment has been made by the Government of India in this matter. Along with announcing its decision, America has also warned other countries. The warning said that any country that opposes this decision will be thrown out of the International Dollar System.

Will India enforce the ban?

Amidst this situation, the question arises whether India will implement this ban or not. So currently Mahan Air and Iran Air operate between India and Tehran. According to the report, the number of passengers traveling from India to Iran in March 2026 is said to be 1,69,000. However, this makes the daily figure more than 5000. But, in this figure, it is not necessary that all these passengers went only to Iran. It also contains data of connecting flights.

Which countries stopped flights to Iran?

According to recent reports, after pressure from the US, some countries have started taking practical measures against Iranian airlines. Iraq has decided to stop Iranian flights at Baghdad airport from September 23. Oman has also suspended flights of Iranian airline Mahan Air. Georgia has also banned Iranian aircraft from entering its airspace. Iran’s Mahan Air has said it has suspended its flight services to Turkey following a request from the Turkish government.

China called the US decision ‘illegal’

At the same time, China and Russia have not yet given any indication of accepting the American ban. China has made it clear that it will not impose US unilateral sanctions on Iranian airlines and has called the US ban illegal. The situation in Pakistan and Turkey is not entirely the same.

However, matters are not easy for India, as it has strong economic and strategic ties with the US on the one hand and long-standing trade and strategic ties with Iran on the other.
