The MLB playoff picture is coming into focus with just over two weeks remaining in the 2026 regular season, but several division and wild-card races remain unsettled. The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers are positioned to lead the National League, while all three American League division races remain within striking distance for multiple teams.
The current postseason field is far from final, making the final stretch of the regular season especially important for teams battling for division titles, byes and the last available wild-card spots.
The Tampa Bay Rays currently occupy the top spot in the American League playoff picture, with the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros also positioned to win their respective divisions based on the current standings. The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox hold the other two wild-card positions, while the Cleveland Guardians are currently in the final American League playoff spot.
The AL East remains particularly significant. Tampa Bay is trying to hold off New York, while Boston is also firmly in the postseason race. The Central and West races are similarly unsettled, with the White Sox leading Cleveland and Houston attempting to separate itself from Texas and Seattle.
The current projected bracket has the Rays and White Sox receiving first-round byes. The Astros would face the Guardians in one Wild Card Series, while the Yankees would meet the Red Sox in the other.
The National League currently has a clearer top tier. Milwaukee is positioned to finish first in the NL Central, while the Dodgers are projected to take the NL West and secure one of the league’s top two seeds.
The NL East remains one of the key races to watch. Atlanta currently leads Philadelphia, although the Phillies have been gaining ground. Philadelphia is also involved in the competition for the top wild-card position, with the Cubs close behind.
The Padres and Diamondbacks are battling for the final National League postseason position, adding another layer of uncertainty to the bottom of the bracket.
If the season ended with the current standings, Milwaukee and Los Angeles would receive byes. Atlanta would face San Diego in the Wild Card round, while Philadelphia would meet Chicago.
Beyond the current standings, the latest playoff projections give Milwaukee an especially strong postseason outlook. One projection has the Brewers finishing as the NL’s No. 1 seed and ultimately defeating the New York Yankees to win the World Series.
That projection would give Milwaukee its first World Series championship, although the final bracket remains subject to change as the regular season continues.
The MLB playoff picture is therefore still fluid. With only a little more than two weeks remaining, teams across both leagues are competing for division crowns, favorable seeding and the final postseason opportunities before October baseball begins.
