Los Angeles: Myles Garrett is set to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and will be placed on injured reserve, according to a report from Tom Pelissero. The Los Angeles Rams are hopeful the star defensive end can return in about four weeks.
The development follows Garrett’s disappointing Rams debut in a 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year finished the game without a tackle or a pressure after entering the matchup while dealing with an ongoing knee issue.
Garrett had missed significant portions of training camp and preseason practices because of swelling in his knee. Rams coach Sean McVay had previously said the team was being cautious with the veteran pass rusher, who had returned to practice shortly before the regular-season opener.
After the loss to San Francisco, Garrett acknowledged that he was not fully healthy. He described his performance as the worst version of himself and said he needed to recover and return to the level he had previously shown.
Garrett joined the Rams during the offseason after being acquired from the Cleveland Browns. He was coming off a 2025 season in which he recorded an NFL-best 23 sacks, setting the league’s single-season record. He has 125.5 sacks across his nine NFL seasons.
The Rams are now expected to play without Garrett for at least the next four games while he recovers. Los Angeles is scheduled to face the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills during that stretch.
