From Space-AI to West Asia… What issues were discussed between India, France and UAE?

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, an important meeting was held between India, France and the United Arab Emirates to promote trilateral cooperation. The India-France-UAE trilateral ministerial meeting held in New York (Tuesday, September 22) saw the three countries review the existing cooperation and discuss expanding the partnership in new areas.

In this meeting, the Indian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar did. From France, Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barreau participated, while from the UAE, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan participated.

Review of cooperation in space and AI

During the meeting, the three foreign ministers reviewed the progress made so far under the tripartite cooperation. Areas such as space, artificial intelligence and culture and heritage were prominent in the discussion. Emphasis was placed on further strengthening the cooperation already underway in these areas between the three countries and taking forward new projects through concrete initiatives.

The situation in West Asia was also discussed

Apart from this, the present situation of West Asia was also discussed in the meeting. The foreign ministers of the three countries discussed regional development and emphasized the need to further strengthen mutual cooperation. This tripartite format between India, France and the UAE is also important in terms of broader strategic interests related to West Asia, Europe and the Indo-Pacific.

A consensus was reached in the regular meeting

The three countries reiterated their commitment to further strengthen and expand trilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest. It was also decided that the three countries would meet at regular intervals and review the progress of cooperation in various fields. The three countries also agreed to advance constructive relations through concrete initiatives.

Why important for India?

Along with strategic cooperation, India-France-UAE trilateral arrangement is also gaining ground in new areas like technology, space and AI. The agreement to review these areas and the regular dialogue at the meeting in New York is an important step towards institutionalizing this tripartite partnership.
