Nvidia RTX 5090 Hits New Price Levels as 96GB Modified Model Appears in China

The Nvidia RTX 5090 is drawing attention for two very different reasons: a modified version with a reported 96GB of memory has appeared on Alibaba in China, while retail prices for the flagship graphics card have climbed sharply in Germany. The developments highlight both the demand for high-memory GPUs and the unusually high prices surrounding Nvidia’s top consumer graphics card.

The China-listed model is being offered for $3,888, according to the Alibaba listing, and is advertised with three times the memory of the standard RTX 5090. However, questions remain about whether all of the advertised specifications are accurate.

Modified RTX 5090 Doubles Down on Memory

The modified Nvidia RTX 5090 comes from Shenzhen Suqiao Intelligent Technology Co., a Chinese OEM/ODM that produces graphics cards, motherboards and servers. The company is offering a version with 96GB of memory, compared with 32GB on the standard GeForce RTX 5090.

The configuration is technically plausible because Nvidia’s GB202 chip is also used in the RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell, which has 96GB of GDDR7 memory. The modified card would require a custom PCB and memory chips arranged in a configuration that allows additional capacity.

However, the listing contains specifications that raise doubts. It describes the card as using GDDR6X memory at 14 Gbps, a combination that does not align with the known characteristics of GDDR6X. The report therefore treats the advertised 96GB configuration with caution rather than as a fully verified consumer product.

Prices Continue to Surge

The unusual Chinese model is appearing as standard RTX 5090 prices remain elevated. In Germany, the graphics card has reportedly climbed beyond €5,000, representing a substantial increase from its price earlier in the year.

That pricing stands in sharp contrast to the $3,888 Alibaba listing for the modified 96GB card, although the two prices cannot be treated as a direct comparison because the Chinese product is a modified model and its specifications have not been independently established.

The gap also illustrates how difficult it has become to assess the value of high-end RTX 5090 hardware when availability, regional pricing and specialized modifications are all influencing the market.

High Memory Targets AI Users

The appeal of a 96GB RTX 5090 extends beyond conventional gaming. Chinese graphics-card manufacturers have increasingly modified existing GPUs to increase memory capacity, partly in response to demand from customers using graphics cards for artificial intelligence workloads.

Previous modified cards have included higher-memory versions of the RTX 5080 and RTX 4090. The reported RTX 5090 modification follows the same broader effort to extract more capacity from consumer GPU hardware.

For now, the 96GB RTX 5090 remains a product that warrants caution because of the questionable specifications in its listing. Meanwhile, the standard Nvidia RTX 5090 continues to command exceptionally high prices in some markets, making the flagship GPU an increasingly unusual proposition for buyers.
