Ray LaMontagne collapsed on stage during his Nashville concert Saturday night, briefly alarming fans before his team said the Grammy-winning singer was being treated for heat-related dehydration and was doing well.
LaMontagne, 53, was performing at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium as part of his “Trouble” 20th Anniversary Tour when he fell backward during a performance of his 2004 song “Jolene.” Members of his team immediately rushed to assist him, and the concert ended early.
His team later provided an update through his Instagram Stories, saying LaMontagne was receiving care from local emergency medical services. The statement also indicated that he was looking forward to performing the following night in Louisville.
The health scare did not keep LaMontagne off the road for long. He performed at the Louisville Palace in Kentucky the following night as scheduled.
The Nashville incident occurred during a tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of LaMontagne’s debut album, “Trouble.” The tour began Aug. 23 in Salt Lake City and is scheduled to conclude Oct. 3 with three performances at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.
LaMontagne has been performing “Trouble” in full during the anniversary tour, along with songs from his broader catalog. His most recent studio album, “Long Way Home,” was released in August 2024.
Video recorded by a concertgoer captured LaMontagne playing guitar and singing “Jolene” before he suddenly fell backward. The moment prompted audible concern from people in the audience as members of his crew moved toward him.
The incident came during a milestone tour for LaMontagne, who has released nine studio albums during his career. He won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2011 for “God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise.”
With LaMontagne subsequently back on stage in Louisville, his tour is continuing as scheduled following the Nashville medical scare.
