New York: Apple will release the iOS 27 update on September 14, giving compatible iPhone users access to the company’s latest major software upgrade. The release follows months of developer and public beta testing and comes alongside Apple’s latest hardware cycle.
The update is expected to be one of the most significant iPhone software releases of the year, with Apple Intelligence and a new Siri experience among its headline additions. Apple has also introduced changes across several core iPhone features and apps.
Apple confirmed at its September 9 event that iOS 27 will become available as a free software update on Monday, September 14. The announcement ends months of speculation over the timing of the public release.
The software has been tested through developer and public beta versions since earlier this year. The final release now arrives shortly after Apple unveiled its latest iPhone hardware.
Apple is keeping the same broad compatibility range as iOS 26. The update supports the iPhone 11 series and newer models, along with the second-generation iPhone SE and later versions.
That means owners of several older iPhones will still be eligible for the software upgrade rather than being required to purchase a newer device. However, eligibility for the full operating system does not mean every new feature will be available on every supported iPhone.
One of the biggest changes in iOS 27 is the arrival of expanded AI capabilities. Siri AI is scheduled to roll out as a beta with the update, while Apple Intelligence will also become available on supported devices and languages.
Apple says some AI functions require compatible hardware. Siri AI, in particular, is limited to supported devices, meaning older iPhones that can install iOS 27 may not receive every AI feature.
The update also includes additional changes to the iPhone experience, including refinements to Apple’s Liquid Glass interface, new child-safety features and improvements across Apple’s software ecosystem.
For users with compatible iPhones, iOS 27 will arrive through Apple’s standard software-update system. The release is part of a broader software rollout that also includes new versions of Apple’s operating systems for other devices.
Apple’s release timing is expected to follow its usual pattern, with the update becoming available during the day in the U.S. Exact availability can vary by region and time zone.
