Tension will rise between Brezza and Venue! Honda is bringing a new SUV, know when it will be launched?

Japanese car company Honda is gearing up to strengthen its SUV range in India. The company had indicated earlier this year that it would now focus more on models developed specifically for India. These models will be designed keeping in mind the needs and preferences of the Indian customers. The company’s target is to strike a better balance between car price and performance. Honda Cars India plans to launch 10 new models in India by 2030. Sub-4 meter compact SUV and mid-size SUV segments will be given special attention.

Honda’s new subcompact SUV is expected to be launched by 2028. After launch, it will compete with SUVs like Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. According to the company, this new SUV will be designed and developed keeping in mind Indian roads, customer needs and local market preferences.

The model will also be important for Honda as the company’s small car and compact SUV presence in India has been limited after the discontinuation of the Brio, Jazz and WR-V. Currently, Honda has the Amaze as its flagship model in the sub-4 meter category.

Petrol, hybrid and EV options

More technical information about the new Honda SUV has not been revealed yet. According to reports, it could be built on Honda’s global small car platform or any new modular architecture. This platform can be used for different powertrains. In such a scenario, the future SUV may see petrol engine, hybrid and electric powertrain options. However, the company has not yet said anything about these options.

An Elevate facelift and 0 Alfa EV will also arrive

Ahead of the new small SUV, Honda is gearing up to launch a facelifted version of its Elevate SUV. Instead of major design changes, it is expected to get some minor updates and new features. The existing petrol engine can be retained. After this the company may introduce the Honda 0 Alpha electric SUV in India. It will compete with electric SUVs like Maruti e Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV and MG ZS EV.

The Civic and Accord may also make a comeback

Honda is also mulling the possibility of bringing some global models to India in limited numbers. According to reports, the company is looking at reintroducing the Civic, Accord and CR-V in India. These models can be sold in fully imported and hybrid versions. Apart from this, the plan to bring Honda Prelude hybrid sports car in India is also being considered. It can be presented as a model that reinforces the company’s premium and brand-image.
