Preparations are underway to replace it with a wall mounted fan. The first batch of wall-mounted fans have reached the campus and the process of installing them in some hostel rooms has begun. According to information received from IIT Bombay, wall mounted fans are now being installed in the campus hostel rooms instead of ceiling fans. The first batch of new fans have reached the campus and the process of installing them in some hostel rooms has begun. Renovation work is going on in several rooms of IIT Powai’s campus hostel, with ceiling fans being removed and wall hanging fans being installed. However, sources in the college say that the decision is old and has nothing to do with the Sahil suicide case.

However, the decision is being implemented at a time when questions are being raised about security and student welfare on campus after the death of B.Tech student Sahil Wakode in the hostel on September 18. However, the IIT Bombay administration has clarified that the decision to replace the fan is not after the recent incident but is part of the already scheduled renovation work of the hostel.

It is being said that the proposal to replace the ceiling fan was under consideration for about two months and was finalized recently. According to the administration, several renovation works were already proposed in the hostel, including replacement of fans.

Demonstration of students regarding Sahil suicide case

On September 18, B.Tech student Sahil Wakode died in a hostel at the IIT Bombay campus. Which is considered suicide. After the death of Sahil Wakode, the students protested for three days. On Sunday night IIT Bombay Director Prof. Shirish Kedare held a meeting with the protesting students and signed a charter containing 18 demands of the students. These include demands for student safety, mental health support and an independent investigation into the matter.
