Dillon Gabriel Trade Outlook Comes Into Focus as Browns Prepare for Jaguars Opener

Dillon Gabriel remains a key question in the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback picture as the team prepares for its Week 1 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gabriel is currently on injured reserve with a back injury, while speculation about his future in Cleveland has continued.

The Browns have already established their Week 1 quarterback situation, but Gabriel’s longer-term place on the roster remains less certain. His injury has added another complication to a quarterback room that has undergone significant competition.

Gabriel’s Future Remains Uncertain

Gabriel entered the offseason as part of a crowded Browns quarterback group. Cleveland ultimately moved forward with Deshaun Watson as its starter, leaving Gabriel’s role on the depth chart uncertain.

Gabriel’s rookie season included 937 passing yards, seven touchdown passes and two interceptions. He completed 59.5% of his passes and went 1-5 as a starter before being replaced by Shedeur Sanders.

Gabriel was placed on injured reserve with a back injury on Aug. 30, according to the Browns’ transaction log. The designation was made with a return possible later in the season.

The injury means Gabriel will not be part of Cleveland’s active roster for the beginning of the season, further delaying any immediate decision about his role.

Meanwhile, Cleveland has another injury concern ahead of its opener. Guard Teven Jenkins has been ruled out against Jacksonville because of a back injury, while center Parker Brailsford is listed as questionable with a thumb injury. Rookie Austin Barber is expected to start at right guard in Jenkins’ place.

Trade Speculation Continues

Gabriel’s name has repeatedly appeared in discussions about potential Browns trades. One recent assessment described him as a prime trade candidate, while another suggested Cleveland could explore a deal if another team sees value in adding him as quarterback depth.

There has been no confirmed trade involving Gabriel, however, and the Browns’ official transaction record continues to list him on the team while he recovers from his injury.
