Gautam Adani became the richest person in India! How much wealth did Ambani leave behind?

Gautam Adani and his family have again topped the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2026 overtaking Mukesh Ambani and his family. Adani’s assets rose 13 percent to Rs. 9.23 lakh crore ($96 billion), while Ambani’s wealth fell 10 percent to Rs. 8.63 lakh crore ($90 billion). Now Adani Ambani Rs. 59,400 crore is ahead.

The latest Hurun list includes 1,810 people whose assets are at least Rs. 1,000 crores. His total assets increased by 12.8 percent compared to last year to Rs. 187.5 lakh crore ($1.96 trillion), which is almost half of India’s GDP. India now has a record 391 dollar-billionaires, up from 237 five years ago. 27 new dollar-billionaires have been added to the country in the last one year.

The new faces of the steel and metal sector are among the top 10

Arcelor-Mittal’s LN Mittal and his family climbed eight places to third place. His wealth has increased by 93 percent to Rs 3.39 lakh crore. The company’s fortunes have increased amid security measures related to steel trade in Europe and strength in steel prices regionally. Mittal held the record for adding the most wealth (Rs 1.64 lakh crore) to the list.

Vedanta Resources’ Anil Agarwal and his family’s wealth increased by 87 percent to Rs. 2.08 lakh crore, placing them at ninth place, seven places up. Restructuring of the group into separate metals, power and energy businesses helped improve its portfolio valuation.

Sameer Mehta of Torrent Pharmaceuticals and his family made it to the top 10 with 10th position. After the completion of the merger with JB Chemicals, his assets have increased by 52 percent to Rs 1.89 lakh crore.

An entry to quantum computing

Nagendra Nagaraja of Bengaluru-based QpiAi has become the first quantum computing entrepreneur to make it to the Hurun List. He paid Rs. entered this list with assets of 1,700 crores. This is the first asset included in this list that is built based on quantum hardware and software. Artificial Intelligence has also made it to the Hurun List as a separate sector. It includes 19 people, whose total wealth is Rs 3.07 lakh crore. 15 of them have appeared in this list for the first time.

23 people from the aerospace and defense sector have made it to the list, with a total net worth of Rs 85,200 crore. 28-year-old Tanay Kothari and Sahaj Garg joined the list with their artificial intelligence company ‘Whisper Flow’. Each of them has a net worth of Rs 4,200 crore.

The number and wealth of rich people in India increased

The number of people on the list has increased by 128 compared to last year and by 803 in the last five years. The list now includes 163 cities, of which 106 are Indian cities.

Mumbai has the highest number of rich (465), followed by New Delhi (236) and Bengaluru (129). 93 dollar based billionaires also live in Mumbai. The average wealth of the people included in the list has increased from Rs 9,874 crore to Rs 10,362 crore. The wealth of these people has increased at the rate of Rs 5,833 crore every day.

Now the wealth of 23 people is more than 1 lakh crore rupees. These people own 28.9 percent of the total wealth included in the list. On the other hand, Rs. 1,000 crore to Rs. 1,157 people with assets between Rs 5,000 crore own 14.2 percent of the total wealth.

Dominance of self-made entrepreneurs

There are a record 1,266 entrepreneurs on this list, that is 70% of people who have achieved their own success. The number was 1,109 last year and 55 percent five years ago.

Industrial products is the largest sector, employing 166 people. This is followed by chemicals (142) and pharmaceuticals (136). The largest number of new entrants (44) have joined the list from the industrial products sector.

Aditya Kumar Halvasia of ‘Cupid’ was the person who grew his wealth the fastest. His wealth has increased by 859 percent to Rs 18,800 crore. It also made the biggest jump in the rankings and climbed up 939 places. The youngest person on the list was 23-year-old Kaivalya Vohra of Zepto. His co-founder, 24-year-old Adit Palicha, was the second youngest.

Women and Overseas Indians

131 women have been included in this list, compared to 100 last year. 33 women included in the list are dollar-billionaires.

Roshni Nadar Malhotra and her family are India’s richest women with a net worth of Rs 2.79 lakh crore. He is fifth in the overall ranking.

Jayashree Ullal of ‘Arista Networks’ is the richest ‘self-made’ woman with a net worth of 77,400 crores. He is also the richest professional manager in the list.

Renuka Jagtia of Dubai-based Landmark Group was the highest ranked new entrant. She has joined the list at the 36th position with a net worth of Rs 70,500 crore.

The number of people living outside India has increased to 156 in this list. Out of which 90 people live in America and 31 people live in UAE. Rajiv Jain of Fort Lauderdale-based GQG Partners was among the top-ranked foreign newcomers. He has been included in the list at the 125th position with a net worth of 27,100 crores.

The list also includes 816 people whose wealth has increased, while 653 people have seen their wealth decrease. Apart from this, 219 people were excluded from the list. The average age of the people on the list is 64 years. The average age of women is 66 years.
